We have come on a little since the time when chocolate cravings – or even simply eating chocolate – were associated only with negative results. How many times have you been told that your teeth will rot, or that your blood sugar level will shoot through the roof, if you eat too much chocolate? However, some recent studies have found that eating chocolate can, in fact, have positive effects on our body and mind. But the overall balance is still negative, so perhaps we should be looking to see if there is any chance of finding a natural cure for chocolate cravings.

Cocoa Has Some Positive Effects

Eating the cocoa contained in chocolates gives the body polyphenols, which help in reducing inflammations and also give the immune system a boost while also gobbling up free radicals, all of which is for the good of one’s health. Still, it is no excuse for chocolate addiction, which in the old ages was more or less confined only to the very rich, the nobility and, of course, royalty, who were the only people that could afford this dark brown stuff. And in those times, when their chocolate addiction was not satisfied for whatever reasons, the results were certainly very testing on those who had to work at providing the chocolates to the addicted gentry.

With the spread of chocolate eating to countries such as Italy, Switzerland, England and Holland, there was a noticeable shift in terms of chocolate addiction, which started to become known outside of France. Chocolate cravings were probably also encouraged by another couple of reasons: first, Casanova consumed chocolate to further his love making conquests, and, second, chocolate is greatly instrumental in elevating a person’s mood and can often be more satisfying than sex. So, as we can imagine, its allure to the consumer is so great that the risk of chocolate addiction will prove even more real than for any other food.

The all pervading power of chocolate over our senses is best seen when chocolate addiction takes over our being and whatever good intentions we may have had about kicking the habit gets thrown out the window the next time the urge hits us and we are unable to resist one more chocolate bar. Thus, it is clear for all to see that chocolate addiction cannot be overcome with just will power, because chocolate addiction is a result of unconscious decisions made in the mind, over which the heart and will power have no control.

While there certainly may be a natural cure for chocolate cravings, it will probably need help from other people to aid you in your attempts at giving it up. You can probably find help in support groups in internet – you may even find a local support group. What is clear is that you are going to need almost a re-education of your mind. For this you may want to try cognitive behavior therapy, a psychotherapy based on modifying cognitions, assumptions, beliefs and behaviors, with the aim of influencing disturbed emotions. Whatever you try in your search for a natural cure for chocolate cravings, the most important part in your battle will be your own attitude.
